I’ve decided that the burst of sewing energy is the result of me not wanting to return to my cubicle. Last night, I started a corset using Simplicity 2621; I’m currently in the fitting stage. I still have most of a 20 yard bolt of canvas, but I need to “shop” my remnant bin for the top fabric. I know I have bits of twill, damask, canvas, and coutil, so this may be multicolored. The corset is going to be the foundation for a bodice I’ve wanted to make for a while, made of a brown embroidered cotton/linen-look remnant. I want the bodice to be side opening, and since it will be pieced, I’m using the following as inspiration.
I really like the way the piping is placed that makes it look block-y. I’ll search my scraps for coordinating strips of fabric once I get to the design stage. I may have to go to the store for skirt fabric, but I’m trying to work solely from my stash…maybe broadcloth that I was saving for a new shirt.
This will be the first project of the new year, and I’m kind of excited for it. Off to fit!
Thanks for stopping by!
