No sew weekend

I’m still having trouble focusing on what I should work on.  Our next faire day will be next Saturday, and we decided on last year’s maroon & gold matching ensembles.  Upside: I don’t have to do any last minute sewing this week.  Downside: That means that I have nothing to focus on this week.  I need to pull the outfits from the closet and inspect for any repairs.  We never got to wear them after I added some small details, and I’m not even sure if my gown will fit.  Maybe I’ll look at that tonight….

Today was a mild let down; I went to the university library for a few important costuming reads–Queen Elizabeth’s Wardrobe Unlock’d and Patterns of Fashion [4].  Both books were listed as being on the shelves, but neither book was in its place.  I am NOT a happy camper, and if I find out who’s hiding/hoarding them, my wrath will be felt.  I walked away with a few hold-me-overs–The Costume Technician’s Handbook, Draping for Fashion Design, A Visual History of Costume: The 16th Century, and Medieval Costume and How To Recreate It.  Two of the books have lots of fun pictures for inspiration, and least two will teach me techniques that I don’t know (which isn’t hard, because I have a lot to learn).  My plan going forward is to stalk the library shelves in seach of QE’sWU at least–I MUST find out why it’s so expensive to own.

During my lack of focus today, I pulled my red velvet cloak out of the closet for a little love.  I’m going to hem it at least 5 inches (I’m kinda short), add a large hook and eye to the inside, and decorate the ties, which take way too much stress to be functional.  I didn’t do any work on my LC doublet bodice, as I had expected to; I have some fears about bodice fit, and want to read a few construction techniques before cutting the next layer.  The next layer likely being a re-cut of the canvas flatlining.  I didn’t want to, but I may have to make a fabric trip to stock up on cotton duck/drill.  My remnants have been great, but I should really have more on hand since I use it for everything.

Off to stare at my work table again; thanks for reading!
